So Long To Summer

As I begin to write a new entry, I can hear the rain tapping on the porch roof.
It is a rain that we have needed and waited on FOREVER!! Finally summer is drifting away and autumn is making it's arrival. The first part of summer was awesome!! I loved sitting out in the morning sun, reading and at times praying. I loved watching the hummingbirds, and hearing the birds sing. I would "play" in my herb garden sometimes planting, and always watering. Doing that just made the day go better. Then the 100 degree(sometimes more) hit, and even the mornings were too hot! In my part of the country we have had to deal with no rain, wildfires, and wind that would spur on the fires. It has been SOME SUMMER. I am more than ready to see it go and pray next summer is lots better.

There are some things I truly will miss about summer time.
I will miss going to Farmer's Market.
It is one of my favorite things to do in the spring and summer.
A local farmer has the most delicious  blueberries there! I always find the best produce, plants, and flowers! This year I found a new mint, called Colonel's Kentucky Mint. It's leaves have a neat texture to them and it is such a hardy plant. It is still doing quite well in the herb bed. In fact all my herbs did very well and still are. I have watered them like crazy!!

I will also miss making bouquets from the flowers from the various planters, bushes,etc... But they will be back in spring. Time for them to rest... I can always get flowers from the store.

I will miss watching my kiddo playing in the water, hearing the laughter, knowing next year my youngster will be a year older. I pray more laughter, and splashes of fun for next year too.

One place I visited for the first time this summer
was just up the road, Lily Land.

Now that was a neat place. Loved how the gardens, etc.. were so cleverly done. It was unique and whimsical , but so very beautiful. I can't wait to go back in the spring when all the lilies are in bloom.

So as I said before, the first part of summer was great, it was the last part that was not very enjoyable. I am however grateful for the blessings of the season, even with the hot weather, etc... Summers around here can become very hot, but this year was a "doozey" and one for the history books for sure. One thing I so look forward too in the Fall is that I once again can sit and drink coffee in mornings and instead of watching the hummingbirds, I will watch the leaves turn, and hear the geese as they fly over to a pond near by.

So long Summer 2011..

May the summer to come be full of happy times, and many blessings!

Your summer has been too hot and ours was a damp squib for the most part, though we have just had a week long Indian Summer with record temperatures for October in the UK - a high of 29.9 Celcius.
Maybe next year you will have a cooler one and we will have a warmer one, we can but hope.
The photo's of your decorations are lovely, as are the flower pics.
